About DDx Publishing

DDx Publishing is a publisher of topic-specific symptom tracking diaries that can be used to track different health metrics, either for personal, medical, or research purposes.

Made by patients, for patients

DDx Publishing was founded in 2024 by Vicky van der Togt, a recovered Long Covid patient who battled the debilitating disease for over two years. Throughout her illness, she encountered a healthcare system that lacked sufficient insight into Long Covid, leaving her without comprehensive support.

Tracking symptom fluctuations proved challenging, making it difficult to convey the day-to-day impact of the disease. Cognitive issues turned brief GP appointments into stressful experiences, and memory recall difficulties often meant leaving consultations with unresolved concerns. Determined to bridge this gap, she decided to work on developing a comprehensive Long Covid Symptom Diary, designed to help patients gain deeper insight into their condition and navigate their healthcare journey more effectively.

With her experience in patient advocacy, research, and community-driven science, Vicky recognized that a truly effective symptom diary needed to be informed by those who would use it most. Therefore, she worked directly with Long Covid patients from different countries to understand their challenges and needs, determined to accommodate patients in the best way possible. By applying the same principles she brings to her research, collaboration, accessibility, and patient-centered design, she ensured the journal was not only practical but also a meaningful support tool for those managing Long Covid.

Now, after months of focus group sessions with Long Covid patients, patient groups, as well as researchers from around the world, the Long Covid Symptom Diary is available for order online in all global Amazon territories.

A broader focus

During the creation of the Long Covid Symptom Diary, it became evident that this concept can be applied to many other diseases. We’re already in the process of developing symptom diaries focused on other diseases, as well as working on creating a customized diary for the use in a clinical trial focused on a different disease, which is set to start in March.

Giving back: supporting patients and advancing research

At DDx Publishing, our mission goes beyond creating practical tools for patients – we are committed to supporting the communities affected by these diseases. A portion of the proceeds from our book sales (€1 for every book sold) will be donated to patient associations and used to help fund research studies that improve understanding, treatment, and care for the conditions our books focus on. By purchasing our books, you’re not just gaining a valuable resource – you’re directly contributing to better support, advocacy, and research for those who need it most.

Digitizing the contents of the symptom diaries

DDx Publishing is in the process of developing an AI-powered tool to help researchers seamlessly and securely digitize the data collected in our symptom diaries. By converting patient-recorded information from a physical format into an accessible digital one, this tool will drastically reduce the time and manpower needed for data collection and analysis.

Automating this process means researchers can focus on interpreting results and uncovering meaningful insights, rather than manually inputting data. Stay tuned!
